2023 PERSON OF THE YEAR

This week we celebrate Lazetta (Zetta) Penner, The Cordell Beacon’s Person of the Year. Join us on Thursday, April 13th at 5:30 p.m. for a reception honoring Zetta at Bean and Ladle located at 116 N Market in downtown Cordell. Zetta has been a staple to our community for many years.

Washita Co. Commissioners minutes

Now on the 27th day of March 2023, the County Commissioners in and for Washita County met in regular session with Chairman Goeringer calling the meeting to order. Chairman Goeringer asked Kristen Dowell, County Clerk, for roll call.

Washita County has new Ag/4-H Development Educator

Paige Wills has been named the new Agricultural and 4-H Youth Development Educator for Washita County. She grew up in Hunstville, Texas and moved to Sayre, Oklaoma about four years ago.

Spring Cleanup week

To assist citizens with keeping their properties well maintained and clean, the City of Cordell will be offering a Spring Cleanup during the week of April 24th - 28th. To have items picked up, residents must fill out a form listing their address.

Chamber of Commerce plans Easter Egg Hunt for Saturday April 8th

The Easter Bunny will hop into Cordell this Saturday for the Annual Cordell Chamber of Commerce Easter Eggstravanza at Lee Park in Cordell. The age group hunt times will be staggered to allow parents to see children of different age groups participate in their designated areas. At 10 a.m.

SWEEPSTAKES!

The Pride of Cordell Marching Band swept the state competition in Ada on March 28th, earning all Superior ratings! (Ones) The last time Cordell’s band had this honor was 20 years ago, in 2003. Way to go BAND!

Hamburger benefit Friday for Cordell’s Blessing Box

The Patties for a Purpose event, which will benefit the Blessing Box, will be held at the Washita Theatre Friday and Saturday, April 7th and 8th at 6:00 p.m. Cordell’s Blessing Box is a food pantry located in front of Wookies Tattoo.

New leadership for Cordell as Kliewer wins Mayor seat

Phil Kliewer defeated challenger Earlene Smith in the race for City of Cordell Mayor. Kliewer received over 87% of the vote. Smith is expected to stay on as one of two representatives for Ward 2 on the Cordell City Council. Greg Cox defeated challengers Amy Riggs and J.D.
