After several rain delays and threats of hail, Washita County’s farmers are ready to wrap up wheat harvest.
The first load of wheat was brought into the Bessie Farmers Co-op on May 30th by Kevin and Slade Nightengale. Test weight on that load was 59.6 and moisture was 13.2 %.
Lloyd Miller delivered the first load to Wheeler Brothers Grain in Cordell. Test weight was 62 and Moisture was 13.5%.
Jon Wilson of the Cordell branch of the Bessie Farmers Co-op estimated that there is about a week left of harvest.
Wilson said wheat grades have declined some over the last few weeks due to excessive rain, but that it was still testing at acceptable levels.
