Weekend offers several options for Independence Day fun

There will be plenty of Independence Day activities in Cordell this Saturday, July 1st.

Start off a great day with the Heavenly Junk Market & Car Show, being held at the Washita County Activity Center on 3rd and Massingale from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Bean & Ladle will be there with specialty coffees and teas, and V’s Smokehouse will be on site with delicious barbecue. Vendors will be set up selling everything from pottery, clothing, jewelry, and tons of handcrafted items. Be sure and bring the kids so that they can enjoy an outdoor petting zoo. Car show registration begins at 8 a.m. and entries are $25 day of show.

There will be a free Family Fun Day at Lee Park beginning at noon. Come out and enjoy games and food for the whole family.

Beat the afternoon heat with a refreshing dip in the Cordell pool. Swimming is free Saturday! The pool will be open from 1 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Head over to the Washita Theatre for the best popcorn around and watch Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny during its opening weekend. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for Seniors and kids under 12.

Finally, end the day with a spectacular fireworks display by the Cordell Fire Department beginning at 10:00 p.m. at the Gregory Park ball fields. Please note, however, that no personal fireworks can be used at the ball fields on Saturday. The public can set off their fireworks in the ball field parking lot only on Tuesday, July 4th up until midnight.
