Blue Devils sports: The week in review (March 3)

Wrestling Junior Shane Perkins represented Cordell at the Class 3A 100th State Wrestling Championships Saturday at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. Perkins faced Joe Jackson from Watonga in a single-elimination pigtail match and came up short 5-3.

Blue Devils sports: The week in review (Feb. 27)

The Cordell girls basketball team claimed the Area 1 District 8 championship title with a convincing 45-29 win over Boone-Apache. With the win, the girls improve to 9-10 overall and now get ready for regional action starting Thursday.

Perkins qualifies for state

Junior Shane Perkins qualified for the state tournament Saturday at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City. Perkins finished fifth in the 182-pound weight class in the Class 3A West Regional tournament and punched his ticket to state.

BOYS BASKETBALL The Cordell boys basketball team played two games in the past week, and won one and lost the other. On Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Blue Devils hosted Hollis, beating the Tigers 45-39. On Saturday, the boys hosted Frederick and lost a high-scoring slugfest, 92-83.

GIRLS BASKETBALL The Jana Rogers-led Cordell Lady Blue Devils went 1-1 last week, earning their one win in a nail biting overtime game. A third game for the week was canceled. The girls now sit at 6-10 on the year with two games left on the schedule.

BIG-TIME DECISIONS (w/video)

Cordell High School senior Raydon Kuehne signed his letter of intent to play football for Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, on National Signing Day Feb. 3. The signing was held in the Cordell School’s Auditorium, with Kuehne’s entire team in attendance.
