Elizabeth Edge had an ah-ha moment when she was a senior in high school. She was the president of the school’s select choir, and the director needed to be out for a minute and asked Edge to teach a lesson to the eighth-graders. She thought to herself, I can’t teach a lesson to eighth graders.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports that Washita County’s number of people testing positive for COVID-19 has jumped some again throughout the past week. The total number testing positive in the county is now 887. It was 814 a week ago, an increase of 73, or 7 percent.

At its Dec. 21 meeting, the Washita Board of County Commissioners heard staffing changes in the court clerk’s office and the treasurer’s office. Court Clerk Lynda Vermillion named Carolyn Burns as the first deputy in her office. She replaces Kim Batt, who made a move to the treasurer’s office.

2020 finished with a bit of rain/ice/sleet/ snow, without Quartz Mountain losing power or suffering damage. We hope everyone else fared at least as well. 2021 is off to a beautiful start. The first three days brought bright sunshine and gorgeous blue skies.
