More School Districts Offering Full-Time Virtual Programs

Melanie Brungardt’s four children were frustrated at school. Brungardt, of Oklahoma City, said some Putnam City Schools classes had too many students, and teachers were forced to spend more time on behavioral issues and less time on instilling knowledge.

Area Man Killed In Car Crash

A 68-year-old Mountain View man was killed Sunday morning while walking near the intersection of Highway 9 and County Road 2430, approximately four miles east of Mountain View. Jackie Lester was struck by a car driven by 39-yearold Hobart resident Shautonna Stevenson.

Cordell Firefighters Participate In National Stair Climb Challenge

Three Cordell firefighters traveled to Oklahoma City over the past weekend to participate in the annual 9/11 Stair Climb. The event is held each year to honor the memory of New York firefighters killed during the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and the subsequent rescue operations.

Cordell Voters Approve Sales Tax For Hospital

Cordell voters have overwhelmingly approved a one percent sales tax to provide much-needed financial support Cordell Memorial Hospital. Unofficial results show the final vote count at 467 in favor of the proposition, with just 40 opposed.

Cordell Experimenting With Water Filtration Technology

In an effort to reduce the amount of water the city purchases from Foss Reservoir every month, the City of New Cordell is experimenting with a new filtration system which may allow the city to use water from its own well fields to supplement the city’s drinking water.

Swine Garbage Feeding Banned After Nov. 1

Beginning November 1, the practice of garbage or waste feeding will be prohibited in Oklahoma after the passage of House Bill 2155. “Garbage feeding increases the risk of foreign animal disease transmission to the swine industry,” said Dr. Rod Hall, State Veterinarian.
