Local 4-H Holds Speech Contest

Canute 4-H hosted the Washita County 4-H Speech Contest on Friday, April 30 at the Canute Elementary School. Forty 4-H members gave speeches in various divisions. There were 14 Cloverbuds who presented their speech and received a green participation ribbon and certificate.

Contributed photo May 10 - 14 was National Hospital Week and the Cordell Memorial Hospital had fun celebrating. They started the week on on Monday with a “Chip! Chip! Hooray!” and chocolate chip cookies for all the hard work the CMH staff does each and every day.

The Carla Whinery Black Scholarship was presented to Darren Powers and Dalton Webb on May 13th, 2021. This scholarship is given on a yearly basis to a Burns Flat-Dill City graduate(s). Carla was the daughter of Robert and Carleene Whinery and wife of Jerry Black.

10 YEARS AGO On the week of May 4 in 2011, Mike Hileman took over as the new United Supermarket Manager, succeeding Bobby Richardson. It was announced that Wynter Probert, the five year old daughter of Chris and Sarah Probert, won a national ski race in her age division.

Josh Thompson was born on February 2, 2003 in Elk City, Oklahoma. He is the son of Charlie and Sandy Thompson. He has two older sisters Crystal and Leanne, he has a younger sister Kelly and a younger brother Noah. Josh is currently a Junior at Canute High School.
