Although the month of October is typically awash in the color orange and decorated with pumpkins, Oklahoma 4-H’ers celebrate with four-leaf clovers and the color green. Why? Because the first full week of October is National 4-H Week.

This past Tuesday, September 28, 4-H members from all over Washita County came to our annual awards banquet at the Cordell city park. The Burns Flat-Dill City Sr. 4-H club was well represented.
Eight Washita County Junior 4-H members submitted a record book this year. The Dill Work and Play OHCE and the wiling Workers met September 14, 2021 at 11:00am for a Brunch and regular meeting in the home of Jane Shall. Anna Prickett led a prayer and we enjoyed a delicious meal. The meal was enlarge furnished by Jane, but several members also helped.

After Homecoming activities being scaled down in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cordell students are excited about building floats, participating in Spirit Days, and preparing for the parade and pep assembly that will be held on the downtown square Friday afternoon.

FIRE SAFETY FIELD TRIP TRADITION CONTINUES

Each year the Cordell Fire Department treats children from Cordell Elementary to a fun-filled day during Fire Safety Week. Students learn about fire safety, slide down the fire pole, shoot water from fire hoses, and in recent years, enjoy a hot dog lunch prepared by local firefighters.
