Washita Co. 4-H Members Honored at Program

Washita County 4-H held the annual 4-H Awards Program on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Cordell City Park. 4-H members and leaders were recognized for their hard work and support for the 2020-2021 program year. The following Teen Leader County Officers facilitated the achievement program: Brance, President; Kathryn Sirmon, Vice President; Evangelene Denny, Secretary/Treasurer; Joey Mooney, Photographer; and Teen Leader Teia Lund. Also assisting with awards and being our guest speaker at the end of the program, was the West District Southern Region 4-H Vice President, Hunter Kelsey from Amber, OK.

Many 4-Hers were recognized for winning county 4-H contests, as well as participating in the Ag Innovator Program and Meat Judging. Members were presented a certificate for their State Fair qualifying exhibit. Community Service Projects are a priority for Washita County 4-H and for every Club in the county. Projects highlighted at the program were: Change for Change project benefitting the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Pull Tab Campaign for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Cambree Moore was recognized for collecting the most change during a 5-minute challenge at our County Fair.

The Outstanding Fair Exhibitor Award was presented to Brance Barnett, Burns Flat-Dill City for the most 4-H exhibits entered the most exhibits in the 4-H Division of the Washita County Free Fair in 2021.

Members who submitted 4-H Record Books were also acknowledged.

Outstanding Cloverbuds are 5-7 year olds that turned in a 4-H Cloverbud Record Book. The following Cloverbuds received a trophy for their efforts: Kendally Gossen, Cambree Moore and Abel Ledesma, Cordell 4-H; and Waverly Schneberger of Burns Flat-Dill City 4-H.

Junior members 3rd-6th Grade also received award for their 4-H Record Books. Eight Washita County Junior 4-H members submitted a record book this year. From the record book evaluation, four members were chosen to interview for the top 4-H awards. Congratulations to: Kali Bloomer, Cordell, Wildlife & Fisheries Medal; Francesca Bloomer, Cordell, Wildlife & Fisheries Medal; Bailey Gossen, Cordell, Food Science and Fabrics & Fashion Medals; Denton Cook, Cordell, Agriculture Medal; Korben Gossen, Cordell, Poultry and Food Science Medals; Delainee Moore, Cordell, Swine Project Medal, Top 3 Junior Member; Braxton Barnett, Burns Flat-Dill City, Citizenship, Top 3 Junior Member; and Bentlee Lester, Sentinel, Beef and Public Speaking Medals and the 2020- 2021 Outstanding Junior 4-H Member.

Senior 4-H’ers (7th-12th grade) also received awards for their 4-H Record Book submissions. Kathryn Sirmon, Burns Flat-Dill City, Dog Medal and Top 2 Senior Member; Brance Barnett, Burns Flat-Dill City, Advanced Fabrics and Fashions Medal and the 2020-21 Oustanding Senior 4-H Member.

Outstanding 4-H clubs have high participation in county events, contests, record books and fundraising. The Outstanding Jr 4-H Club went to the Cordell Junior 4-H and the Outstanding Senior Club went to Burns Flat-Dill City Senior 4-H.

The following adult 4-H volunteer leaders were recognized: Erin Schneberger, BF/DC Jr. 4-H; Larissa Mason, BF/DC Sr. 4-H; Shivaun Peck, Canute 4-H; Jeff Ray, Cordell Jr. 4-H; Anjulia Lund and Jessica Huntzinger, Rocky 4-H; Susan Baker, Sentinel Jr. & Sr. 4-H; Jerry Burris and Jeff Ray, Shooting Sports; Keith Schneberger, Meats Judging; General Volunteers: Lowayne Piercy, Mary Peck, Lori Barnett. Larissa Mason was recognized as the Outstanding 4-H Leader.

Washita County 4-H members are fortunate to have many supporters that promote the organization, as well as encourage student success. Some give their much appreciated time and encouraging words. Others also give financially. On behalf of all the 4-H members and Extension Staff, we would like to thank all the communities of Washita County for continued support of the 4-H program and of our youth.
