Kolby Dowell, a graduate of Cordell High School and Southwestern Oklahoma State University filed for the position of Washita County Assessor during the recent candidate filing period. Kolby has worked as an Assistant Manager at Sonic Drive-In in Cordell since 2020.

On a successful note, Cordell Blue Devil Band loaded the bus and headed to the State competition on Tuesday morning. Supporters lined the downtown square to cheer them on as they departed town. As of press time, the band had not given their performance, but next week’s Beacon will have an update!

Mayor Phil Kliewer (center) presented special awards to Cordell PD’s Officer Marty Miller and citizen Eddie Ramsey for their heroic efforts during a search and recovery for Piper, an Australian Shepherd. Also receiving an award was Dustin Pool, who works in Cordell’s Electric Department.
