Mountain View Free Fair continues the tradition July 31- Aug 2

The Mountain View Free Fair will begin on Thursday, July 31 and run through Saturday evening, August 2, 2025.The Fair operates Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with special entertainment and live music on each evening. Local volunteers run carnival rides and games starting at 8:00 p.m.

New students wishing to enroll in Cordell schools may do so on July 29th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The enrollment will be held for junior high and high school students in Mrs. Campbell’s office at the high school and the enrollment for elementary students will be held in the elementary lobby.

Pedestrian/vehicle collision takes life of Washita County man

A Washita County man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on I-40 early Saturday morning. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the fatal collision happened at approximately 2:10 a.m. on July 19 near mile marker 45 eastbound, about two miles west of Canute in Washita County.

Since the demolition of Cordell’s ‘Mural Building,’ pigeons have invaded the downtown square. The flock formerly roosted inside the dilapidated structure. City officials are seeking a solution to their messy presence and hope to reduce their numbers soon.

Cowden Alumni return for annual reunion

Festivities for the annual Cowden School Reunion began at 2:00 on Saturday July 12th, 2025 at the Mountain View Seniors Center. The location had to be changed due to flooding in the Cowden Community Building. Thirty people attended the 39th Cowden School Reunion.
