Code Blue Crossfit offers alternative to traditional workouts

Last June Jason and Candace Dudgeon opened Code Blue Crossfit at 111 South College Street, just off the square in Cordell. Code Blue offers the CrossFit strength and conditioning program which consists mainly of a mix of aerobic exercise, calisthenics, and weightlifting. Hourlong classes typically include a warm-up, a skill development segment, the high-intensity “workout of the day” (or WOD), and a period of individual or group stretching. Performance on each WOD is often scored and/or ranked to encourage competition and to track individual progress. The Dudgeon’s journey to Code Blue Crossfit began three years ago when both Jason and Candace started CrossFit training in Clinton.

They loved the sense of community and the atmosphere the program provided to the participants. “After seeing the results and what it is capable of doing, I felt my area hometown could benefit from what you could bring through CrossFit,” Jason recalled. Jason, a lifelong area farmer, along with Candace and their two daughters, Erin (14) and Zandalin (7) then decided to bring their passion for health and fitness to Cordell and Code Blue Crossfit was conceived. The program’s focus on community as a factor in overall health was also an important factor in their choice of CrossFit. As Jason put it, “One big thing about CrossFit, we are big on helping people. When we see an opportunity to step in for a good cause, the CrossFit community as a whole is always ready to help.”
