Can you tell us a bit about yourself, i.e., age, job, hometown, family, hobbies, etc.?

I am originally from Denton, Texas. I moved to Cordell in 2006 and I have owned Riggs Nutrition for the past three years. My hobbies include being involved in my church and fundraising. I have been married for 12 years and have one daughter, who is a freshman in high school.

Why are you running for city council? What are things you hope to accomplish if elected?

I want to build good relationships between the Chamber of Commerce and the City Council so that we can bring more growth to the local businesses in town and fill more of the empty buildings with thriving businesses.

What experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as a city council member?

I was on the Parks and Recreational board in Denton, Texas. I have been on the City of Cordell's planning and Zoning committee, Chamber of Commerce board, Lions Club and the City of Clinton Kiwanis Club among countless corporate sales and customer service trainings I have attended in my business years.

How do you plan to involve residents in the decision-making process in Cordell?

Communication is key, we need to explain the why behind the way we work so they understand the how. For example, where is the money going that they are paying?

A lot of residents are unhappy with the quality of the city’s water. What specific steps can you take as a city council member to help fix that issue?

The water issue will take time and more research needs to be done and reported on more often, not be put on the back burner. Pipes need to be updated and hydrants flushed more often.

A lot of residents also are unhappy with the high price of electricity in Cordell. Yet, every month the council approves a rate increase. What will you do to specifically help fix this issue for residents?

The people need to know why the rates are going up and they need to see the money going to good work. We also need to get more grants to make the money go further.

What are some of your favorite things about the town?

The history and the old buildings.

Why should you be elected to the city council?

I am not afraid to ask questions and get facts before I vote.

What else should people know about you or your candidacy?

I do have a voice for the people. I am not afraid to speak up for anyone. If anyone has any other questions, they can contact me.
