Washita County Clerk Kristen Dowell was recently selected, at the annual County Officers and Deputies Association of Oklahoma conference, to serve as the President for the 2026-2027 term.
Dowell is the third person to represent Washita County in this position since 1946. Ruth Hathaway served in 1946 and Ernest Morris served in 1961 as president of the association.
The County Officers and Deputies Association board is comprised of eleven elected officials from across the state representing different departments of county government and serves to improve the standards of all county officers and deputies, cooperate with the State Auditor and Inspector’s Office and other state educational institutions in arranging and conducting Association meetings, conferences, and training, support or sponsor legislative proposals designed to improve all county offices, and promote the welfare and education of all county officers and deputies throughout Oklahoma.
“I am honored to be selected by my peers from across the state to serve in the position, but am most excited about having the opportunity to represent Washita County at this level”, said Dowell.
