Can you tell us a bit about yourself, i.e., age, job, hometown, family, hobbies, etc.?

I was born and raised in Cordell. I have spent all my life here. I graduated from Cordell High School. I got married in 1965 and had three children. They all graduated from Cordell High School. I have always been active in the community. I am a member of First Baptist Church.

Why are you running for city council? What are things you hope to accomplish if elected?

I like being on the city council and helping with decisions that the council makes. We, as a council, hope to always better things for the citizens of Cordell.

What experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as a city council member?

I have served on city council for several years.

How do you plan to involve residents in the decision-making process in Cordell?

I like talking to people one on one and discussing their ideas and problems they may have.

A lot of residents are un happy with the quality of the city’s water. What specific steps can you take as a city council member to help fix that issue?

Cordell’s water system is 100 years old. We are working and doing what we can. We have hired an engineer and are following his advice.

A lot of residents also are unhappy with the high price of electricity in Cordell. Yet, every month the council approves a rate increase. What will you do to specifically help fix this issue for residents??

OMPA is our Power Cost Adjustment that recoups the city’s cost for getting the power. That changes every month based on what OMPA charges the city. My electricity is higher in summer months because of air conditioning and our outside watering. I feel Cordell is a reasonable place to live with the cost of utilities.

What are some of your favorite things about the town?

I think Cordell is a nice community to live in. We are very blessed to have all that we have a beautiful court house, a beautiful park, wonderful school systems, a nice library, businesses, a hospital, and our police coverage. We have many benefits that other towns off the interstate don’t have.

Why should you be elected to the city council?

I have several years of experience and have seen a lot of the things the town has survived.

What else should people know about you or your candidacy?

I will visit with anyone about things you are concerned about. If I can’t provide an answer I will find someone that can!
