Knife-Wielding Man Arrested At Burns Flat Swimming Pool

An altercation at the Burns Flat Community Swimming Pool escalated into a potentially dangerous situation and resulted in the arrest of one man on a felony charge of assault, battery, or assault and battery with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.

Canute Man Charged With Domestic Assault In Front Of A Child

A Canute man is facing up to a year in prison following his June 23, 2019, arrest. James Douglas Hoffman II was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor following an incident at his former girlfriend’s residence.

Commissioners Make Cuts To Department Budget Requests

The Washita County Board of Commissioners approved the budget allocations for the various county offices during their July 1, 2019, regular meeting. The commissioners, working with the county’s excise board, trimmed almost $50,000 from the county officers’ requested allocations.

WTC Students Attend National Conference

Students from the Western Technology Center Biomedical Academy recently attended the Health Occupation Students of America national conference in Orlando, Fla. Chase Dewees represented WTC and the state of Oklahoma as a state officer for the national organization and received a $1,000 scholarship.

Local Student Tours DC With CK Energy Scholarship

Cordell’s Camryn Nickel joined three other Oklahoma high school students on a scholarship tour of Washington, D.C. last month, sponsored by CK Energy. Jenny Hoyle and Caden Schaufele of Hobart High School and Baylee Doney of Fletcher were the other scholarship winners in the CK Energy service area.

Mason Named 4-H State Ambassador

A group of 4-H club members from around the state have a new opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills as they begin serving as State 4-H Ambassadors. Jordan Mason, a member of the Burns Flat-Dill City Senior Club in Washita County, is one of 13 4-H’ers selected for this honor.

BFDC High’s Benedict Honored As 2019 Academic All-Stater

Alexa Benedict, left, of Burns Flat-Dill City High School, was recently named as a 2019 Academic All-Stater during the Oklahoma Foundation For Excellence banquet. Benedict graduated from BFDC in 2019 and received an Academic All-State Scholarship from Great Plains Bank of Burns Flat.
