Now on the 23rd day of January 2023, the County Commissioners in and for Washita County met in regular session with Chairman Goeringer calling the meeting to order. Chairman Goeringer asked Kristen Dowell, County Clerk, for roll call.

Take note of upcoming election information

Several important election dates and a polling place change are upcoming for Washita County voters. The candidate filing period for the Municipal Election to be held on April 4th is next week, February 6th through February 8th.

Filing period opening soon for February Municipal Election

Cordell will have several open seats on City Council as well as open positions for Mayor, City Clerk, City Treasurer, and City Marshall when the Municipal Election is held on Tuesday, April 4th. Candidates may file beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, February 6th. The filing period will end at 5 p.m.

Fair Board Election to be held January 31st

The Washita County Free Fair Board will see an election on January 31st as two candidates filed for the District 1 seat. Voters will have a choice between Kamie Gossen and Zachary Holt. Jaron Johnson filed unopposed for the District 2 seat and Chris Black filed unopposed for District 3.

SWOSU students named to Honor Rolls for Fall 2022 semester

The President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s Honor Roll at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford, Sayre and Yukon have been announced for the 2022 fall semester. The fall 2022 honor rolls include students from 19 states and 16 countries around the world.

Cordell Memorial Hospital fills in gap left by Clinton closing

The doctors, nurses and Cordell Memorial Hospital (CMH) staff members are handling an influx of new patients due to the temporary closing of the Clinton hospital at midnight on December 31, 2022, when Alliance Health’s lease officially ended.
