Complete Candidate list for April Municipal Election released

Washita County Election Board Secretary Jennifer Barnette has released the official candidate filing list for the upcoming April Municipal Election. Two candidates, Phil Kliewer and Earlene Smith, will face off for the seat of City of Cordell Mayor.

Parent conferences scheduled for Cordell students

Cordell Schools will hold Parent-Teacher conferences on Thursday, February 16th from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Parents of Cordell Elementary students may contact the elementary office at 580-832-3420, extension 402, to set up appointments.

DHS provides in-person access point in Cordell

After the Oklahoma Department of Human Services closed their office in Cordell, many patrons faced the difficulty of getting to Clinton to speak with someone face-to-face to apply for services or to get assistance with their current cases.

Cordell Students attend Honor Choir

On January 27th, 2023, six Cordell Elementary students attended the Circle the State with Song Honor Choir. Circle the State with Song is a choir festival opportunity sponsored by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association that works as a great way to build the vocal program at our school.

A letter from Cordell Schools about upcoming pilot program

Cordell Public School will begin a Board approved pilot program called, “Raising Highly Capable Kids.” It’s a program with over a decade of proven success for lowering at risk factors that sabotage students. The nonprofit program introduces parents to 40 assets to over 13 weeks.

Cordell Police Department Report by Chief Denney

On 12-17-2022 Cordell Police Officers were called to the Cordell Memorial Hospital to test a substance found after a patient become unresponsive. The substance tested positive for fentanyl and methamphetamine. During the testing one of the officers started showing signs of fentanyl exposure.

April Municipal Election will see contested races

While the candidate filing period for the April Municipal Election won’t end until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th, the Beacon can report that as of press time at noon on Tuesday several candidates have filed for various positions.

Community theater production auditions scheduled

Live theater is coming to Cordell, and locals will have the opportunity to join the fun by auditioning for a role on either February 13th or 14th at 7:00 p.m. There are two nights of auditions set to allow everyone a chance to be at one or the other.
