Jaclynn Anne Cheves Balzer
Jaclynn “Sass” Anne Cheves Balzer passed away Aug. 16, 2019, in her home in Cordell. Jaclynn was born Sept. 25, 1968, to Herbert Eugene “Jack” Cheves and Barbara Anne “Frazer” Cheves.
At 11 months old the family relocated to Pawhuska, where Jaclynn attended Pawhuska Public Schools and graduated in 1986. Jaclynn was active in sports, band and FFA. She loved living on the Oxley ranch and spending her summers at Bluestem Lake.
Jaclynn attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College where she received her associate’s degree with honors. She then continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Jaclynn did her student teaching at Burns Flat-Dill City Public Schools in the fall of 1990 and was hired full-time in the spring semester of 1991. She taught second grade from 1991-2012 and Pre-K from 2012-2018.
Jaclynn was married in August of 1989 and of that marriage came three children: Laramie Lee, Lindsey Anne and Layne Mackenzie. Jaclynn’s children were the light of her life and she completely lived for them. Jaclynn had one grandson, Langston Lee Balzer who she absolutely adored.
Jaclynn was an avid Oklahoma Sooner Football fan. She loved to go to games with her children. Her children were her whole world and she poured her life into them. She never missed a single activity they were involved in no matter what it was. Everyone who knew her knew her children were her only priority.
Jaclynn was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Barbara Cheves.
She is survived by three brothers, Rick Cheves of Pawhuska, David Cheves and wife Teresa, of Fairfax, and Jimmy Cheves and wife Georgeanna, of Pawhuska; her children, Laramie Balzer of Cordell, Lindsey Carlisle and husband, Kris, of Weatherford, and Layne Balzer of Cordell; one grandson Langston Balzer of Cordell; five nieces and nephews; eighteen great-nieces and nephews; and a host of dearly loved friends and coworkers.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Jaclynn’s honor to the Jaclyn Cheves Balzer memorial fund set up at High Plains Bank at 200 N College Cordell, OK 73632 to continue her legacy in the Early Childhood Department at Burns Flat- Dill City Public Schools where she was employed for 27 years.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at the Burns Flat- Dill City High School Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Whinery Funeral Services. Pastor James Hager and Mike Reimer will officiate. Private family interment will be held prior to the memorial service. Condolences may be made online at www.whineryfs.com
