Clayton Ray Twyman, 77 years, 8 months, and 23 days, of Cordell, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 25, 2019, at Alliance-Health in Clinton. He was born on Dec. 2, 1941, to Nora (Thomas) and Alfred Twyman in Elk City.

Clayton grew up in the Burns Flat and Canute community. He attended school in Canute and graduated from Canute High School in 1960. Clayton participated in basketball and baseball.

After graduation he continued to work on the family dairy farm and Canute Cotton Gin. On Oct. 1, 1960, he married his beloved school mate Marian Blackmore in Elk City. Together they made their home in Canute and farmed for Newell Webb. Clayton went to work at the Canute Lumber Company for KD Kappel. He became manager and continued there until it closed. He was moved to Cordell Lumber Co. as manager in 1971. Clayton worked there until he retired. He also worked in construction with Barney Donavon.

In December of 1997, Clayton went to work at the Assessors office as Deputy Assessor, then became County Assessor in March 2009 and retired in March of 2018. After retirement he continued to raise cattle and farm which he loved most. Clayton also enjoyed fishing with his grand and great grandchildren.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and PaPa. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his blue heeler Buddy more than words can describe. He never missed a chance to watch their basketball, baseball and softball games or the chance to take them fishing. Clayton will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marian of the home. three children: Johnny Twyman of Cordell, Lana Spoon and husband Scott of Yukon, and Tim Twyman of Cordell; six grandchildren: Tyler Spoon of Yukon, Kaley Spoon of Weatherford, Anna Hewitt and husband Danny of Cordell, and Michael Moore and wife Leigh of Cordell; five great-grandchildren: Natalie, Spencer, and Logan Hewitt and Baylor and McKinley Moore; brother Floyd Twyman and wife Joyce of Canute; sister-in-law Kay Blakemore of Yukon; brotherin-law Charles Edward Blackmore and wife Val of Benton, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and close friends including all his coffee buddies and basketball bench watchers.

Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, and from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, with the family welcoming guests from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Ray & Martha’s Funeral Home in Cordell.

The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at the Cordell High School Auditorium in Cordell, with interment to follow at Canute Cemetery in Canute.
