WHEREAS; the City of New Cordell takes great pride in recognizing citizens whose service strengthens the health, dignity, and well-being of our families; and WHEREAS, recognizing that assistance programs such as SNAP and WIC do not fully close the gap for community needs, Rachel Jones opened the Cordell Blessing Box, which provides food to families in need; and WHEREAS, the Blessing Box carries a simple charge “Take what you need, give when you can” six words that are at once an open invitation to the hungry and a standing call upon the generosity of this community; and WHEREAS, in addition to the Blessing Box Rachel Jones also operates several community initiatives to reduce the distance between available resources and community need, including annual toy and school supply drives; and WHEREAS, Rachel has worked with local churches to organize multiple community meals for local families during the federal government shutdown, meeting practical needs with compassion and without fanfare; and WHEREAS, on February 10, 2025, Rachel Jones was recognized by News 9 as its Hometown Hero of the Week, an honor presented in partnership with Quail Creek Bank, and upon receiving it she emphasized her commitment to helping as many people as possible; and WHEREAS, Rachel Jones’s dedication and commitment to her community have inspired many others and resulted in tremendous community buy-in for her initiatives; and WHEREAS, Rachel Jones has extended her hand to those in need and has been an example of compassion and selflessness in our community; and WHEREAS, her work is most often done quietly and unseen, and Rachel Jones has shown that one determined citizen can close the gaps that larger systems leave behind, bringing honor to herself, and to the entire New Cordell community; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Phil Kliewer, Mayor of the City of New Cordell, Oklahoma, do hereby proclaim: September 21, 2026 as RACHEL JONES DAY in the City of New Cordell, and encourage all citizens to join in commending her compassion, her service to the citizens of Cordell, and the example she sets for us all.
