International Overdose Awareness Day

On Thursday, August 31, community members lined up several pairs of shoes along the walls and fence line of the pocket park across from the Washita Theatre. Shoes traced the benches in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

4-H Shooting Club Receives Grant

4-H Shooting Club Receives Grant

The Washita County 4-H Shooting Sports program received a grant from the Oklahoma Shooting Sports Association. Money was used to buy amunition for the club’s practices. This grant was invaluable to help get the Washita County 4-H Shooting Sports program up and running.

Election Office Updates Hours

The Washita County Election Board announced that it will have new office hours beginning September 5, 2023. The new hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday . The office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. The Washita County Election Board is located at 111 E Main St.

Cordell educators receive grants from State of Oklahoma program

Cordell students have started the school year with exciting new classroom projects. Utilizing the crowd-funding site DonorsChoose.

History was made as the first ever Miss Washita County Fair Pageant was held on August 24th.

If you’ve driven east of Cordell on Highway 152 in the past few weeks, you may have noticed a large new concrete entrance, tons of earth moving, a new fence being built, and the beginnings of a new corporate sign in the front yard.

Washita County’s Free Fair starts Wednesday, August 23rd with the arrival of entries from 3 – 6 p.m. Entries will continue to be accepted on Thursday from 9 – 11 a.m. (poultry and rabbits will be accepted until 5:30 p.m.) The action will kick off for the public at 5 p.m Thursday.

Thirty-six contestants will be vying for the titles of Tiny Miss, Mini Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Miss Washita County Fair on Thursday evening, August 24th. The Miss Washita County Fair pageant will be held at the Cordell School Auditorium and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
