Cordell’s downtown square is sporting new banners and the trees and flowers are in full bloom. Personalized pavers are being installed, and concrete workers have been busy repairing areas around the storm drains and have improved curbing by reshaping edges into curves.

The Carla Whinery Black Scholarship was presented to Logan Kemp and Kathryn Sirmon on May 15th, 2026. This scholarship is given on a yearly basis to a Burns Flat-Dill City graduate(s). Carla was the daughter of Robert and Carleene Whinery and wife of Jerry Black.
