‘I THINK IT’S BEAUTIFUL’

After more than 20 years away from her hometown, Rachel Jones is back and ready to make a difference. Jones returned to Cordell to open Wookies Tattoo and Body Piercing, which she had been running in Mannsville until earlier this month. Her new Cordell location will be at 210 E. First.

County’s virus numbers keep rising

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports that Washita County’s number of people testing positive for COVID-19 jumped again some throughout the past week. The total number testing positive in the county is now 738. It was 660 a week ago, an increase of 78 over last week.

Cordell woman thankful dog is back home again

During the two weeks her dog was missing, Katie Gideon experienced many emotions. Hope. Anguish. Grief. “I had a feeling I would see him again, but I just didn’t know,” she said. “I was really sad, and I cried a lot.” One night, the Cordell native had let Kuma outside, and he disappeared.

Agriculture Grants and Loans Now Available

  The next set of grants and loans are now available from the Agricultural Enhancement and Diversification Program, with applications due Jan. 4, 2021. This program helps fund qualified, agriculture-related projects across the state with zero percent interest loans and grants.

Cordell students make dean’s honor roll at SWOSU

Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and Sayre announced their fall 2020 semester honor roll list. An undergraduate student earning all A’s in 12 or more hours during a semester qualifies for the President’s Honor Roll.

This is the sixth year for Cordell first-grade classes to participate in the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. This year the first-grade classes collected 161 pairs of pajamas. They were delivered to the City Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City.

Numbers rise as vaccine doses given

The first round of vaccines hit Washita County Monday, as Dr. Bob Abernathy and other hospital workers received doses. Oklahoma State Department of Health staff administered Abernathy’s shot, while Cordell Memorial Hospital’s Christy Harris adminstered the others.

Some people have the “it” factor. Consider Cordell High School senior Gabby Giblet one of them. Her list of accomplishments is exemplary for a student. Her resume reads like a who’s who. Gabby earned a seat on the State Superintendent Student Advisory Council.
