Everyone loves their pet, right? We do here at the Beacon offices, so much so, that we decided our January photo contest should be about pets. We’re looking for the best selfies with your pets. Cats, dogs, horses, birds or whatever pet you have, we want to see your photos.

Truck driver pinned, injured in accident

A truck driver from Tecumseh was injured in a one-vehicle traffic collision Monday morning south and west of Cordell in Washita County. State Trooper Jared Boese identified the injured driver as Stetson Paul Perez, 23.

Karla Kinney provides one simple piece of advice about COVID-19. Take it seriously. “This virus can be deadly,” the 56-year-old Kinney said. “It doesn’t matter the age. Anybody can get it.” Health officials told Kinney she had the virus on Jan. 13, after she was tested on Jan. 11.

Candidates for municipal office in six Washita County municipalities may file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1. The filing period ends at 5 p.m. Feb. 3, Leah Jones, secretary of the Washita County Election Board, said.

Academic team qualifies for state tournament

The Cordell High School Blue Devil Academic team went 3-1 in the area academic bowl Sunday, earning a ticket to the state academic bowl. This is the furthest Head Coach Rachel Ray and her team have ever progressed into the competition season.
