Fireworks fun requires caution

STILLWATER, Okla. More than a year of COVID-19 precautions and vaccinations has Oklahomans looking to Independence Day as a fireworks-punctuated opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbors.

10 YEARS AGO On the week of June 29, 2011, it was announced that a severe drought would put a damper on Fourth of July fireworks. Washita County, along with many other counties in Western Oklahoma were in the worst drought category in the state, known as D4, or exceptional drought.

CRYSTAL FOUST As you approach Cordell’s newest boutique you are immediately complimented and welcomed by the sign on their door. ‘Hello beautiful, come on in.’ Having been open for a couple of weeks now, Hello Beautiful Boutique owner Crystal Foust said that business so far has been great.

Weekend storm leaves some with fallen branches and no power

Over the weekend, Cordell faced a severe thunderstorm that affected many of its residents and left some with a messy yard and others without power. In the very early morning of Saturday, June 26, Cordell was hit with a severe thunderstorm with wind gusts reported to be 77 mph at 1:45 a.m.

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met June 8, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. in Elk City at Fred’s for lunch and the June meeting. Everyone ordered lunch and Jane Shull called the meeting to order. Emma Bingham led a prayer for devotion for the day. Emma gave the minutes and took roll.
