Only eight days into the school year, Burns Flat-Dill City Public Schools has announced it will be dismissing in-person classes for the rest of this week.
This news comes after a statement made on August 23 by Superintendent Larry Johnson where he said that there had been a total of 12 students, in both the secondary and elementary school, that had tested positive for COVID-19.
Along with this, Johnson also said that 23% of the district’s students are currently in quarantine due to close contact exposure.
Beginning Wednesday, August 25 students will be partaking in virtual classes. The school announced that any student in grades 6 through 12 who is not quarantined can contact the high school office for a Chromebook or hot spot.
This move to virtual for the rest of the week was made in an effort to diminish further illness according to Johnson.
All competitive and extra-curricular activities have been canceled through Monday, August 30, and the school’s meal services will resume that day.
Students enrolled at Western Technology Center are still required to attend classes unless under quarantine.
“Our children’s safety is our overriding priority,” Johnson said. “We ask for your prayers and patience as we work together through these persistently difficult times.”
