Western Technology Center Hosts Next Step Summit for Current Students

Western Technology Center (WTC) recently hosted its annual Next Step Summit, bringing together more than 500 current students to explore career pathways, post-secondary education options and workforce readiness skills as they prepare for graduation and life beyond WTC.

Throughout the day, WTC students connected with representatives from colleges, universities, military branches and local employers during a resource fair designed to help them evaluate their next steps. Students also had the opportunity to receive professional headshots to enhance their resumes, portfolios and professional profiles.

In addition to visiting informational booths, students participated in breakout sessions focused on practical life and career skills. Session topics included interview skills, employment benefits, financial literacy, college success strategies, entrepreneurship, health care careers, ethical use of artificial intelligence, self-advocacy and ADA rights, banking basics, credit management and long-term financial planning.

Presenters from education, business, health care, finance and workforce development organizations shared real-world experiences and industry expertise, providing students with valuable insight into the opportunities available after graduation.

The Next Step Summit equipped students with information, resources and professional connections to support informed decisions about higher education, careers, and military service.

WTC Student Services Specialist Shelby Reimer said the Next Step Summit reflects WTC’s commitment to preparing students for success beyond the classroom.

“In alignment with WTC’s mission of ‘Educating People for Success,’ this conference is designed to help students become successful in life, not just in their careers,” Reimer said. “We strive to prepare students for the real world in many ways, and the Next Step Summit is one of the many intentional opportunities we provide to help them build confidence, knowledge and skills for their future.” By bringing together educators, employers, industry professionals and community partners, WTC continues to create meaningful opportunities that prepare students for success beyond the classroom. Events such as the Next Step Summit reinforce WTC’s mission of Educating People for Success by helping students navigate educational, career and workforce opportunities.
