Washita County Free Fair brings more excitement than ever

Food, games, rides and more are on schedule for this weekend as the Washita County Fair returns in one of its most action-packed runs in recent history. Volunteers will be busy accepting exhibit entries on Wednesday from 3 - 6 and on Thursday morning. Entertainment will get started on Thursday with Buckaroo Bart- an historical presentation about Will Rogers featuring storytelling and rope tricks.

The exhibit building opens at 5 Thursday evening and there will be something that interests everyone. Then, be sure and head to the Barn Yard Olympics at 6:30. (sign-ups begin at 6).

Friday will feature game booths hosted by various school and community organizations and tickets are only $1 each. Play, win prizes, and have fun while supporting these groups. Also on Friday, from 5 - 9 you can purchase a $10 wristband to gain unlimited access to giant inflatables and a train ride. Morel Designs will be doing amazing face painting with prices ranging from $5 - $15.

Saturday afternoon’s highlight will be the Miss Washita County Pageant at the Cordell School Auditorium at 3 p.m. It is free to attend. Relax in the air-conditioning while watching incredible talent and outstanding contestants.

Saturday evening gets started with a crowd favorite, Bingo games hosted by the Cordell Chamber of Commerce at 5. Then, from 5 - 10 is the grand finale...carnival rides return to the Fair! Purchase an unlimited rides wristband at the gate for $45 and enjoy all the midway has to offer for a full five hours.

Don’t forget about the fabulous fair food! Lunches are available on Friday from 11 - 2 with Route 66 Bar & Grill. Saturday there will be a wide selection of food trucks open all day, such as Handlebars Mobile Kitchen, Dandy’s Nitro Dogs, Mindy Mae’s Fat Stack, Kneady Heifer, Rolling Stoves, Mama’s Snack Shack, Last Straw, and Elevated Sweets.

Dinner on Thursday is hosted by Cordell Elementary PTO who will serve walking tacos and baked potatoes. Dinner on Friday is hosted by Washita County Fire Departments with a different menu from each department.

Friday, the Washita Theater will be on site selling several flavors of dirty popcorn and the PTO will have funnel cakes and homemade ice cream.
