Virus numbers climb, but at a slower pace

The city of Cordell passed a COVID-19 milestone this week, and Washita County will topple one as well.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports that Cordell has topped the 300 mark in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19. Washita County was closing in on the 1,000 mark.

The Cordell number this week totals 301, a jump of only 12 in the past seven days.

The increase in positive cases in Washita County over the past week has slowed some, the OSDH reported.

There have been no additional deaths attributed to COVID in the county in the last week.

The total number testing positive in the county is now 993. It was 968 a week ago, an increase of 25 over last week. Two weeks ago the number was 937 and three weeks ago it stood at 887.

Of the 993 cases, 927 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Of the 301 positive cases in Cordell, the most in the county, 273 have recovered. Last week there were 289 positive cases. Of those, 265 had recovered.

Burns Flat, which had 135 a week ago, now has 136 positive cases, the second highest number in the county. Of those, 129 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Burns Flat also has one of the reported deaths in the county.

Canute has 123, compared to 121 last week and has the third highest number in the county. Sentinel has 101. Of the 123 cases in Canute, 114 have recovered and 97 have recovered in Sentinel.

Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 58 and 58; Rocky 34 and 31.

Statewide as of Monday, 390,868 people have tested positive, there have been 3,564 deaths and 358,040 who have recovered. Active cases stand 29,264 at the OSDH said.

Last week there were 374,853 testing positive, there had been 3,293 deaths and 339,014 had recovered. There were 32,546 active cases a week ago.

This week on Monday, the OSDH reported 1,396 new positive cases confirmed and 17 additional deaths.

The OSDH reports more than 2.7 million people have tested negative.
