“Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion,” claims Truvy, the owner and operator of Truvy’s Beauty Spot, a beauty shop set in 1980’s Louisiana. Theater patrons will find plenty of laughs and maybe a few tears as The Legacy at the Opera House’s community theater group performs Steel Magnolias in Cordell beginning with opening night Friday, August 4th at 7:00 p.m. Additional shows will be on Saturday, August 5th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., with the final performance set for Sunday, August 6th at 3:00 p.m.
Truvy, played by Heather Flores, and her faithful assistant Annelle, played by Latasha Aston, play host to a group of locals at the Beauty Spot each Saturday morning, including Chinquapin’s rich curmudgeon Oiuser, played by Shella Stinley, and Clairee, an eccentric millionaire played by Michaela Palmer. The story finds local social leader M’Lynn, played by Director Julie K. Barnett, and her pretty daughter Shelby, played by Brooke Gatlin, preparing for Shelby’s wedding day.
The story moves across two years in the lives of the group, and in the final act the true meaning of the title reveals itself as the women are proven to be as delicate as flowers but as strong as steel in the face of adversity.
Advance reservations are recommended. There are a limited number of seats available. Please call 580-660-6664 for tickets, or come by the Cordell Beacon. The Legacy at the Opera House is located on the corner of Highways 152 and 183 in Cordell.
