Saturday, April 30, was the first Cruise Night of the summer season, and adding to the excitement and enjoyment, the Cordell Fire Department (CFD) held a fundraiser serving smoked turkey breast, smoked sausage with sides, dessert and drinks. Cordell Fire Chief, Seth Slaughterback said the fire department served around 160 people.
Not only was it a successful night for the CFD, but it was a successful evening for the Cruise.
Dennis Lee of Cordell started the cruise back in Aug. of 2016 as a way to get together with his friends and show off their cars.
“I wasn’t trying to create a cruise night. I just wanted to hang out with friends and cruise. We had a lot more people show up than I thought would. After that night I had many people asking when I was going to have another one. So my wife Kaylin, Daniel Watkins and I sat down one night and made the cruise night up together,” said Lee.
The Cruise Night is enjoyable for all ages, as a viewer or a participant.
“I’m always happy to see all the cars and people out. I feel like it gives people a reason to come out and enjoy the evening. Whether they cruised with us or watched all the cars. Sometimes it feels like a rolling car show.”
The scene looked as though it were straight out of a movie-children playing and laughing, community members supporting the local fire department while new and classic cars cruised by.
Lee went on to say, “Everyone is welcome no matter if you have an old school car, a new car, or mom’s mini van. We don’t care. Come hang out maybe meet new people and have fun.”
