Russ, Chandler victorious; Cordell propositions fail to pass

In Tuesday’s General Election, Washita County voters chose to re-elect Republican Kevin Stitt as Governor. As of press time, state results predicted a win for Stitt. Absentee and early voting favored Hofmeister, but election day voters tipped the scales in Stitt’s favor.

Todd Russ easily defeated Charles De Coune in the race for State Treasurer.

Filling the two US Senate seats will be Republican Markwayne Mullin and the re-elected James Lankford..

Ryan Walters defeated Jena Nelson in the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction, a position currently held by Governor candidate Joy Hofmeister.

In a local race for Washita County Commissioner District 3, voters elected Greg Chandler with 50.78% of the vote over Floyd King.

Cordell voters had three propositions on the local ballot. 803 votes were cast. Proposition 1, 2, and 3 concerned allowing the Mayor of Cordell to appoint the positions of City Clerk, City Treasurer, and City Marshall, respectively, with final approval from the City Council. None of the three propositions passed.
