On the week of July 20, 2011, Interbank acquired the Loan Production Office of First Capital Bank.

Cordell City Council Members discussed water usage, and the overworking of the pumps used to transport water to the townspeople.

Area Residents donated the old Ponca City United building to the Ponca CIty University Center.

Mark Merkey was shown with one of the dozers he used to help with the dirt work of the First Assembly of God Church building that was being built on the corner of 14th and North Crider road. Merkey donated his labor and the equipment to help out the church.

Enrollment for Cordell Schools was set to begin on August 3, Classes were scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 11.

Katherine Samuels and Jason R. Armstrong were injured in a one vehicle accident. The accident was the result of an improper evasive action.

2011 Cordell graduate, Anthony Rogers, was awarded a $1,000 dollar Sonic scholarship

20 YEARS AGO

On the week of July 11, 2001, The Cordell School board accepted the resignation of Ann Woody, and named retired Weatherford school principal Alan Hull the new Cordell Elementary School Principal.

Price Prints, a Cordell owned and operated business, was selected to IMPRESSIONS magazine’s list of the 100 Top Volume Screen Printers in the United States. On the list, Price Prints came in 63rd place among competitors.

Hobart planned to hold a celebration for the town’s own 100th birthday, featuring a concert, street dances, concessions, and the cutting of Hobart’s birthday cake.

A deadline of August 15 was set for FSA Emergency Loan Applications. Any farmers seeking compensation for physical and production losses as a result of the October 19, 2000, excessive rainfall, flash flooding, excessive runoff, and standing water, were expected to turn in applications by this date.

40 YEARS AGO

On the week of July 8, 1981, Dana Moore was named the new Washita County Treasurer. According to Washita County Commission Chairman Harvey Weichel, Moore was the first woman to hold the office.

The American Red Cross Blood Services were scheduled to arrive the following week in their Bloodmobile. The Red Cross encouraged townsfolk to donate if able, setting their donation goat at 120 units of blood.

A new fence company by the name of MI Fencing opened in Cordell, offering both the purchase and installation of commercial, residential, and farm fences. The new business was co-owned by Jerry Igo and J.B. Massey.

Producer’s Grain Inc. of Cordell reported the local wheat price at $3.91 a bushel, up ten cents from the day before and up 18 cents from the week prior.

Champion Densimix, a new oilfield supplier, announced that they would be opening a branch in Burns Flat.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Waugh of Cordell and his brother, Sandy Waugh of Elk City, purchased Plasters Convenience Grocery in Fort Cobb.
