New leadership for Cordell as Kliewer wins Mayor seat

Cordell Public Schools Propositions easily pass; four new Council members elected

Phil Kliewer defeated challenger Earlene Smith in the race for City of Cordell Mayor. Kliewer received over 87% of the vote.

Smith is expected to stay on as one of two representatives for Ward 2 on the Cordell City Council.

Greg Cox defeated challengers Amy Riggs and J.D. Banks for the Cordell City Council Ward 1 seat. Cox received 74% of the vote while Riggs received 5% and Banks received 20%.

Blake Reed received 70% of the vote to win over Carl Ramsey for Cordell City Council Ward 2 representative.

For the vote for Council seat Ward 3, Buddy Holman defeated Darryl Anthony with 78%.

The race for the unexpired term for Ward 3 was a close one, with Cheri Nabors narrowly defeating James Newman. Nabors received 223 votes, and Newman received 221.

Bruce Wesner filed unnoposed and will fill the position of Ward 4 City Councilperson.

Karla Ferrero also filed unopposed and will serve as City Clerk.

Two Cordell Public Schools bond proposition passed with a wide margin.
