Incredi-bull weekend planned with the Washita County Rodeo

Cross this off your buck-it list and come experience Washita County’s first 3-in-1 ranch rodeo this weekend.

After a brief hiatus, residents will soon get the chance to experience an event that the Oklahoma Cattlemen Association in Washita County hopes to start up every year.

President of the Washita County Cattlemen Association Jeff Jaronek said he’s excited to see a rodeo event start up again.

The 3-in-1 ranch rodeo will see participants where they will pin, stray gather, and doctor three steers at once.

“Some guys will come out with a real strategy of, ‘oh we’re gonna pin the steer first and then we’re gonna do the gathering, and then doctor.’ Some guys will just come out and say, ‘we’re just going to do it however it comes and try to get him done as fast as possible,” Jaronek said. “The fastest time wins, but with the different strategies it can be pretty entertaining to see how guys go about it.”

Regardless of whether you have been to a rodeo in the past or not, Jaronek said anyone can enjoy the experience.

“We’ll kind of explain the events and what’s going on. It’s not a very slow rodeo. It’s pretty fast-paced, and so that keeps it very entertaining for individuals of all ages,” Jaronek said.

Food trucks will also be present for concessions throughout the night and Jaronek encourages families to bring out lawn chairs and to come hungry.

Jaronek said that the use of a 3-in-1 ranch rodeo makes it easier on the association as it requires less work and can be done using the current facilities available.

This event is put on to gain new members for the Cattlemen Association as well as raise money for scholarships as Jaronek acknowledges the cost of college has risen and the association would like to provide more money to students who need it.

Along with this, being able to give the residents of Washita County something to do and look forward to each year is a goal of this event as well.

“It just gives the community of Cordell the opportunity to come out to a family-friendly event,” Jaronek said. “That’s why we chose to keep the price at $10 a carload, just to make it affordable for families to come out.”

Thirty teams will be competing in the event with the top four teams winning a cash payout after the event. Contestants can enter the night of the event.

“We’re going to have a rules meeting at five o’clock. So [contestants] need to be here well before that to get entered, and they need to enter with cash so that we can do a payout that evening,” Jaronek said.

The teams consist of four people, and entry is still available at a $100 entry fee per team member.

Planned participant of the event Jeremy Weichel, who has been ranch rodeoing for five years, said he looks forward to the event and that it will be a good time.

The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. this Saturday, May 29 at the Cordell Roundup Club Arena east of Cordell on Highway 152 (next to the Highway Department). Admission will be $10 per car.
