A ‘Heavenly’ Saturday of shopping and fun is in store for residents this weekend in Cordell
This weekend, residents in western Oklahoma will have the opportunity to see what local vendors have to offer at the Heavenly Junk Market.
Run by Sarah and Tim Lau, the Heavenly Junk Market has been around for four years now, and it will make its second debut in Cordell this Saturday.
“Everybody comes out. They love to shop. They love to just visit with one another,” Sarah Lau said. “It’s kind of like a minimarket for people to be able to sell their items at.”
As a variety of vendors gather at the weekend market, a variety of items are available to those interested.
Things such as clothing, bath products, candles, metal art, and baked goods are just some of the things available to purchase at the market.
“It’s free to enter and to come in and shop. It’s also a great opportunity to buy those last-minute mother’s day gifts as well as graduation gifts,” Lau said.
Lau and her husband run their own shop called Heavenly Junk where they buy up miscellaneous items such as scrap metal and turn them into art pieces.
They began their shop by participating in local vendor shows around the state, and they now host the Heavenly Junk Market as a chance for smaller vendors to begin the journey they have taken.
“When we started it, there wasn’t anything out here in Western Oklahoma,” Lau said. “If you’re starting out, it’s a great opportunity to kind of get your foot in the door, but yet, you can be next to a person that’s been doing this for 20 years. So you kind of can talk to them too and get different ideas.”
According to Lau, past events have ranged between 200 to 300 people in attendance, and Lau says she believes this year’s turnout will be just as good as before.
“This will give us the chance to just get back out and do something,” Lau said. “Come out and just do something on the weekend.
The event will also include door prizes, photo booth sets, and food vendors such as V’s Smokehouse and Eat Em Up Hotdogs.
“I’ll have a photo booth set up for people to take pictures in the old chairs and things like that too,” Lau said. “We’ve also got a vendor that starts with breakfast and then he’s gonna do lunch. So you can start off with breakfast, go shopping, go get a bite to eat, and go back to shopping again.”
The event will take place this Saturday on May 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Washita County Fairground Activity Center in Cordell.
To see what vendors will be participating in the market, you can visit the Heavenly Junk Facebook page where Lau has been spotlighting the vendors for this year’s event.
As for any vendors interested in participating in the market, Lau said she is still taking applications until Thursday. She can be reached via email at heavenlyjunk15@gmail.com
