Former Republican Senator Jim Inhofe, the longest- serving U.S. Senator in Oklahoma history, has died at 89 after suffering a stroke on July 4th.
After serving four terms in the House, Inhofe was elected to the Senate in a special election in 1994. He served in that capacity from 1994 until his resignation in 2023.
Inhofe had also served as the mayor of his hometown, Tulsa, between 1978 and 1984.
Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ said that Inhofe was a beloved and dedicated servant of Oklahoma. He went on to say “Senator Inhofe was not only a remarkable leader but also a dear friend and mentor. His dedication to our state and its people was unparalleled. He fought tirelessly for Oklahoma, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with Senator Inhofe’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his remarkable life and service. From 2 Timothy 4:7-8: ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing’, Russ concluded.”
