Cordell Elementary Pre-K and Kindergartners enjoyed a fun day at the Firehouse during the annual outing for Fire Prevention Week
On October 13, Cordell Pre-K and Kindergarten students clambered aboard Cordell, Cloud Chief and Bessie fire trucks and spent the morning with the Cordell Fire Department (CFD) to learn about fire safety for Fire Prevention Week; knowledge that’s sure to light a spark or two. During Fire Prevention Week children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Firefighters provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.
“I love watching the kids’ faces and reactions when they get to learn about the equipment that we use and get to run the water hoses outside. I think it is important [for them to learn about fire safety] so they know what to do if they get into a situation, that way they know what to do if that time arises,” stated Cordell Fireman Heath Syfert.
During their visit to the fire department, students were able to see up close how our firemen protect and serve Cordell and surrounding areas through education of equipment and use, bunker gear and how it protects the fireman, how to use the water hose, and how to properly slide down the fire pole.
“My students have been looking forward to this day for several weeks! It is always a highlight of my year to see each of their faces as they load up and ride on the firetrucks! I’m thankful for our community and surrounding community firefighters for taking time out of their day to educate our children on fire safety and prevention,” said Cordell Pre-K Teacher Morgen Trammell.
Overall students had an educational experience that ended at Lee Park for some extended fun and hot dogs provided by CFD.
