Fire Department's Haunted Morgue fundraiser set to scare another year

This Saturday, Oct. 8, marks the opening night of the Cordell Fire Department’s (CFD) Haunted Morgue. Sure to cause fearfulness, this haunted morgue is a two-story, 13 room haunted bewilderment that attracts visitors from out of state, local and surrounding areas for a fun and fright filled evening.

“We’ve changed a few of the rooms, added a room, and lengthened the amount of time it’ll take to get through it,” said Cordell Fireman Lincoln Hunter.

Aside from the suspense and excitement, the haunted morgue also serves as a fundraising event for the CFD. “I enjoy this it’s a blast. It’s a good time and the funnest fundraiser we do,” expressed Hunter.

All funds and donations raised at the haunted morgue go back into helping CFD serve and protect the community as well as protect themselves with the proper gear and necessities needed. “One thing about our haunted house over others, is with a lot of other haunted houses your money goes into some individual's pocket, this money will go back into the community,” mentioned Cordell Fireman Levi Jones.

Before the haunted morgue served as its now hair-raising, spine-chilling haunted phenomena, it served as one of the few funeral homes in town. Still today there hangs a 1970’s watch in the original embalming room that not a soul has dared to touch. This watch still beeps every hour on the hour operating from the original battery. How sinister is that?

The Haunted Morgue will be open every weekend at 8 p.m. in Oct. though Halloween, Oct. 31, until the last attendees are through. Admission is $15 per person. For $40, you can get a Fast Pass that takes you right to the front of the line. Adults and children are welcome; children under the age of 10 use caution. Make sure to watch the Black Phone at the Washita Theatre, Saturday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. before heading to the haunted morgue. You never know who might show up.
