Cordell will have several open seats on City Council as well as open positions for Mayor, City Clerk, City Treasurer, and City Marshall when the Municipal Election is held on Tuesday, April 4th.
Candidates may file beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, February 6th. The filing period will end at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the Washita County Election Board office for the indicated offices for each of the following municipalities:
■ City of Cordell four-year term: one council member each in Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3, and Ward 4. These seats are currently held by Jamie Bardwell, Steve Mc-Laughlin, Lowell ‘Buddy’ Holman, and Zetta Penner, respectively.
■ City of Cordell two-year unexpired term: council member in Ward 3. This seat is currently held by James Newman.
■ City of Cordell City Clerk: two-year unexpired term
■ City of Cordell Treasurer: Four-year term
■ City of Cordell Marshall: Four-year term
■ City of Cordell Mayor: Four-year term. Seat is currently held by Jerry Beech.
Any candidate for city office shall be a qualified elector of the City of New Cordell, Oklahoma by virtue of being a resident and registered voter within the municipality, or in the ward if a candidate for the office of Council Member from a ward, for a minimum of six months prior to filing a Declaration of Candidacy.
Other municipalities with offices up for election include:
■ Town of Dill City: Town Board Trustee, four-year term- three positions; two-year term- two positions
■Town of Sentinel: Town Board Trustee, four-year term- three positions
■Town of Rocky: Town Board Trustee- four-year term- two positions; two-year unexpired term- 1 position ■Town of Canute: Town Board Trustee- four-year term- three positions
■Town of Burns Flat: Town Board Trustee- four -year term-three positions
■Town of Corn: Town Board Trustee- four-year term- three positions; two-year unexpired term- one position
