County sees ninth COVID-19 related death

Washita County has recorded its ninth death attributed to COVID-19, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reports.

The OSDH said the latest death is a male in the 65 and older age group.

The total number testing positive in the county has continued to slow in the past seven days. The number is now 1,054. It was 1,050 a week ago, an increase of only four over last week. Two weeks ago the number was 1,043 and three weeks ago it stood at 1,024 .

Of the 1,054, cases, 1,013 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Of the positive cases, Cordell has the most with 323. Cordell recorded its first death in the last seven days. Of the 323, there have been 313 who have recovered. Last week there were 322 positive cases. Of those, 312 had recovered.

Burns Flat, which had 142 positive cases a week ago, now has 143. It has the second highest number in the county. Of those, 138 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Burns Flat also has one of the reported deaths in the county.

Canute has 132, the same as last week and has the third highest number in the county. Sentinel has 110. Of the 132 cases in Canute, 124 have recovered and 106 have recovered in Sentinel.

Sentinel also has one of the deaths in the county attributed to COVID-19, the OSDH reports.

Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 64 and 61; Rocky 37 and 36.

Statewide as of Monday,424,888 people have tested positive, there have been 4,478 deaths and 407,665 who have recovered. Active cases stand at 12,745, the OSDH said.

Last week there were 419,853 testing positive, there had been 4,203 deaths and 400,597 had recovered. There were 15,053 active cases a week ago.

This week on Monday, the OSDH reported 380 new positive cases confirmed and 50 additional deaths.

The OSDH reports more than 3 million people have tested negative.
