Cornhole tournament to be held in support of #JimmyStrong

In June of this year, 19-year-old Jimmy Jackson was seriously injured in a car accident as he was driving to work on State Highway 33. Jackson was flown to OU Medical Center and doctors weren’t sure he would recover. He had multiple injuries including severe spinal and brain damage, a collapsed lung and two separate broken areas in his back.

After weeks in the hospital and a stay in a rehabilitation facility Jackson was finally released and is now home with his family in Bessie, but his journey of healing is far from over. Although he has regained some movement in his feet and legs, he is confined to a wheelchair and must travel to physical therapy three days a week.

Jackson’s mom, Jennifer Cameron, is thrilled to have him home but this has also come with challenges. Modifications have had to be made to their house to make it handicap accessible. Jackson couldn’t maneuver himself into a tall vehicle, so a car was needed to transport him to appointments.

Family and friends have jumped in to help wherever they can, but ongoing expenses and time away from work have put a strain on a family trying to cope with a drastically different life than what they expected to be living.

This Saturday, September 24th, a cornhole tournament is being held at the Bessie Gym and proceeds will go to Jackson and his family to help defray some of the costs they will continue to deal with for months to come.

Chaz Barker of Bessie is organizing the event and he hopes people will show up to support a young man who has always been eager to help others when he could.

The tournament will be held beginning at 5:00 p.m. The cost is $50 per team. Call Barker at 580-445-7998 to RSVP or with any questions.
