Cordell man continues family legacy with US Postal Service

Local United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier recently received a 25-year Career Service Certificate. The certificate awarded Brian Cunningham of Cordell for 25 years of service in the Government of the United States of America.

Following in the footsteps of his father and great-grandfather, Cunningham began his career in December 1998 at just 23 years old.

“Some days it’s a really nice job, and some days it’s tough. It feels good, though; I’m glad I’ve put 25 years into this,” said Cunningham.

Reminiscing on the last 25 years, Cunningham noted some of the changes he’s noticed through the years, one of which being the very item that powers the postal service: mail.

“The job has changed a bunch since I first started. We used to get so much mail, letters, magazines, stuff like that, now it’s mostly just packages,” stated Cunningham.

Walking while on the clock, embracing all elements of the seasons, and ensuring efficient delivery of community members’ mail and packages are the goals and duties of any mail carrier. Cunningham has effectively and diligently served local areas other than Cordell during his career, such as Hobart for five years and Sayre for eight years, and Cordell has taken the reins as the longest, with 12 years so far.

Cunningham expressed his love for his job, the community members he sees daily, and his co-workers.

“I like the customers the most; there are so many people I have met through this job who are genuinely great people. Queenceilla is a great boss; I like my co-workers and appreciate each one of them. Jeff Giblet was a great co-worker. He was a good friend and a very good guy,” voiced Cunningham.

Residents have applauded Cunningham for his longevity, professionalism, and character and appreciate his service to our community.
