Dinner was being served while the sound of Harry Potter could be heard playing on the TV. What seemed like an average night for the Sutton’s would soon take an unimaginable turn.
In the mid-evening hours of Sunday, Nov. 21, Logan Sutton and his family were startled by an unexpected loud knocking on their front door.
Their home had caught fire while they were still inside. The flames emerged from the fireplace and soared through the chimney around 9 p.m.
“Alexis and the kids were eating supper and I was sitting by the fireplace reading a book. The firemen banged on our door to tell us the house was on fire. I came outside and could see flames shooting out the chimney and I didn’t even know it,” explained Sutton.
Logan Sutton, Alexis Sutton, Cayden Pugh, Tristan Pugh, and their four dogs were inside unaware of the situation unfolding around them.
Fortunately, no one was injured. Amid the chaos, the family got out with nothing other than a blanket to wrap up in while the Cordell Fire Department (CFD) tackled the flames.
“They were three trucks on site before I even knew anything was wrong. We walked outside where they were already here and ready to go!” Sutton said in response to the CFD’s efforts.
Alexis described what felt like angels when talking about the help they received from neighbors. “While it [is unfortunate] about the fire, I’m very grateful to the town, the police department, and to the fire department that came and helped get us out of the house. To everyone that came to help, we are just super grateful,” said Alexis.
“It’s a big disappointment. We loved this house, it was our dream home,” expressed Sutton when questioned about the impact this has made on his family.
Without the quick reaction from the CFD, the house would have been completely lost. Their efforts are appreciated beyond measure by the Sutton family.
The fire decimated the fireplace, upstairs bathroom and bedroom, and the attic of this beloved home, but the Suttons hope that in time repairs can be made.
