Cordell Schools’ vocal music program has some very talented students. Throughout the last few months they have worked very hard and have done well in several different competitions.
In October, there were several students who submitted auditions to be a part of the 2025 Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) Children’s All-State Choir.
Children’s All-State provides an opportunity for exceptional music students to work with guest choral clinicians on challenging music and for an exciting choral experience with other students. It also provides an opportunity for students to perform children’s choral repertoire of excellent quality.
It is a huge honor to be selected. Hundreds of students from all over Oklahoma submit auditions, and only 125 were selected for this amazing opportunity. Of those, Paityn Detherow-Miller was selected for the All-State Children’s Chorus from Cordell Elementary!!
Paityn attended the event January 15th-18th in Tulsa. She spent over 15 hours in rehearsal in preparation for the concert scheduled for Friday, January 18th. What incredible work ethic and ability!
There were eleven students who attended the Circle the State with Song festival on Friday, January 31st.
Circle the State with Song is a choir festival opportunity sponsored by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association that works as a great way to build the vocal program at our school. Through students’ participation, they will become the music leaders in our choir and provide a benchmark for good choral sound. Vocal teacher and director Elizabeth Edge stated “I am very excited that this event seems to be something we will continue to participate in, and that we will (hopefully) be able to take more students every year. It was a fun filled day of rehearsing, lots of singing, and making beautiful musical memories! Overall, there were roughly 260 students participating from all across Western OK. Our students put in a huge amount of work, coming in for after school rehearsals several times a week and practicing countless hours on their own time. I am very proud of all of my hard working, and honored to say that I am their teacher!”
