Cordell Public Schools Reading Specialist Mrs. Chanda Powers has once again demonstrated the power of a generous and compassionate community with her annual Pajama Drive.
This year, in collaboration with her husband, Travis, Mrs. Powers delivered a record-breaking 646 pairs of brand-new pajamas to City Rescue Mission (RCM) in Oklahoma City.
Awaiting the Powers’ arrival at RCM was News 9 Reporter Jennifer Pierce, eager to capture this heartwarming story our community knows all too well . “This year, the donations filled two large bins— enough pajamas to clothe hundreds of children and mothers for months to come,” Pierce shared during her interview with the couple.
The sheer volume of donations confirms the overwhelming support from students, teachers, businesses, church groups, Cactus Drilling employees, and other community members who enjoy supporting the pajama drive.
Mrs. Powers has been organizing this drive for several years, and the effort grows in scope each year .
The pajamas, collected at Cordell Elementary, provide more than just clothing; they offer a sense of dignity, comfort, and care to children and adults facing challenging circumstances.
