A great teacher shows kindness to students, colleagues, parents, and those around them. A teacher who embodies that statement is Anna Feltman, this week's Cordell Blue Devil Faculty Spotlight. Mrs. Feltman grew up in Cordell Schools and now enjoys teaching the children of her fellow classmates. She encourages her students to never give up and to always be kind!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Anna Feltman and I have taught third grade for 12 years at Cordell Elementary. I attended Cordell Schools my entire school career and graduated in 2003. GO BLUE! I then went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University to achieve a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Following graduation in 2008, I married my sweet loving husband, Levi Feltman. Levi and I have three beautiful children: Kimber Lynn (9), Milli Ann (7), and Brett Eugene (3).
What would your students be surprised to find out about you?
Well, I’m pretty much an open book, but I can still do a cartwheel!
What has been a memorable moment from your teaching career?
I would say that my memorable moments have to do with teaching with teachers who taught me and getting to know them at a different level. Also, teaching children of parents that I went to high school with is such a joy! It is so fun to see the similarities they have.
What was it that made you want to be a teacher?
When I was a senior in high school, I was an aide for Mrs. Garmon’s third grade classroom. That was my hook! She played a huge part in my decision. Thank you, Shara! I was also lucky that my first couple of years of teaching was right alongside her.
If money was no object, what would you have in your classroom and why?
This is a hard question. We are really lucky here at Cordell Public Schools. They are really good at getting us what we need for our students to be successful. I guess right now I would want an endless amount of electric pencil sharpeners!
What motivates you to be the best teacher you can be for your students? What are your intentions when you walk into the classroom?
My students motivate me. The relationship that you build with them is so important. Getting to know them in and out of the classroom is key. Letting them know all about me is also major. I want them to have goals and ambitions not only in the classroom but outside of it as well. My intentions when they come in the classroom is to make them feel welcomed, safe, and encouraged.
When you’re not teaching, how do you like to spend your time?
When I’m not teaching I love spending time with my family. We love to go fishing, hunting, camping, or just plain old family time at home.
Do you have any advice for your students?
My advice for all of my students old and new, is to never give up. Work hard for what you want and know that it will not always come easy to you! Also, BE KIND!
