Cordell Band makes history at OBA State Marching Contest

The Cordell Blue Devil Band made history on Saturday, October 12, by competing in the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association (OBA) State Marching Contest for the first time in over 20 years. Under the direction of Band Director Aaron Edge, the band took to the field in Yukon, showcasing their talent, hard work, and love for music in a noteworthy debut.

Mr. Edge expressed the excitement built up over the years leading to this milestone. “To go for the first time was exhilarating! I was so hyped to finally bring this band to this contest,” he shared. For a while, Edge had been hesitant, saying, “I kept saying ‘not yet,’ ‘it’s not time,’ ‘we’re not ready,’ and questioning it. We finally just went for it, and I am very proud of the result.”

The Blue Devil Band didn’t just participate; they made Cordell proud by achieving an incredible second-place finish in their division. What stood out even more was their high score in the music category, a clear reflection of the students and their director’s hard work and commitment to themselves and their bandmates.

Mr. Edge couldn’t contain his pride in his students, saying, “I’m so proud of these kids, and I’ll continue to brag on their constant work. Man, I’m proud!!! Love this group.” The band’s accomplishment has set a new standard for future generations.
