The New Cordell City Council met on Monday, August 15th. The public hearing that was to be held concerning closure of an alleyway at the proposed location of the Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store was postponed until August 29th due to new information received by City Attorney Johnny Beech just before the hearing was set to begin.
During the regular session, a representative from RSMeacham presented the city’s financial report. The report showed the Use/Sales Tax dollars for July were the highest in fourteen years. July is the beginning of the city’s fiscal year and most department budgets were on track.
Interim City Manager Vicki Hagerman gave a report on the Cordell Senior Citizens Center. She said the Center’s air conditioning has been fixed, and she alerted the Center’s Board of Directors about two grants that they could possibly qualify for and offered her assistance if needed in the application process.
City Code Enforcement Officer Robert Venable presented a discussion about the domesticated fowl ordinances currently in effect. City Attorney Johnny Beech will look into preparing a new code that will more fairly regulate the owning of chickens and roosters in city limits.
The Council discussed nuisance parking on Coventry Circle. It was reported that vehicles are being parked on the grass median which is blocking neighborhood traffic and causing ruts in the grass. It was agreed that No Parking signs would be installed.
